Slideshows can be the best way to present your ideas, brand, products (anything, really!) to another person(s). They are 100% customisable, a great way to engage learners, clients and collegues and also a brilliant tool when you know how to utilise them effectively.
However, the problem with them is a lot of people don’t know how that and end up creating boring, dull and uninspiring Slideshows.
We look into a few tips to help your slideshow stand out from the rest.
- Know Your Goal
Be clear about the goal you aim to achieve after showing people your presentation.
Presentations like most things fall into two categories:
Technical Presentations – teaching people about a certain topic. The topic can be anything at all.
Persuasive Presentations – making people see something, like a brand for instance, in a certain way.
Make sure your presentation is focused and not too dull or repetitive.
- Plan It Out
Before you begin, much like story writing, create an outline or list of the major points you want to address.
1. Outline – add you main points
2. Add detail – Add to your outline until you figure out what you want to say in each of your slides.
3. Sequence your slides effectively.
Make sure the presentation follows a logical or chronological sequence.
Resist the urge to cram everything you know about a topic into a slideshow. When you try and tell people everything, they wont remember anything.
- Avoid Stack Templates
Problems:
- Infinite Bullet Point Syndrome
- Discourage graphics
- Every slide looks the same.
- The designs are usually ugly and outdated.
- They will make your presentation look like every other they’ve seen.
- Your audience will lose interest instantly when they are uninterested by another boring slideshow.
- It reminds people of 1990′s slide-rage.
BUILD YOUR OWN THEME
1. Colour
2. Fonts
3. Layout
- Choose A Colour Scheme
Pick 5 colours that look good together and match the tone of them to your presentation. Pick one accent colour that stands out from all the rest.
